Jubilee Economics' podcast The Common Good went on the road to San Diego's Cafe Virtuoso where everything is organic, as much as possible is Fair Trade, and the goods are top quality. (Look for Episode 18 for the main audio interview.)

This slideshow is an extension to the podcast interview with Steve vonKolkow and Laurie Britton, the principal owner-partners at Virtuoso. In this segment, Steve tells about the processing of the imported beans. He walks us through the roasting process and talks about the main pieces of equipment in the shop, how they help him in his consummate effort to get the perfect roast, and to have an earth-friendly setup with lower emissions.

Be sure to look for the other episodes of this Coffee As A Virtue series recorded for Fair Trade month (October 2011), and listen to the podcast for more information about Cafe Virtuoso.

(Pardon the wonky audio levels. We were trying out a new approach in a noisy space.)

Guitarist in the background is Bruno Serrano of San Diego, who just happened to stroll in as we recorded!
