Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fiber that can be found in insulation, floor tiles and other materials found in homes built before 1990. Asbestos was used because it is a long lasting, durable fiber. When materials that contain asbestos are in good shape, it is not a danger to humans, but if it is broken or disturbed it can be a serious home health hazard.
