first thing i noticed was the sound quality. is that down to the GP2X, the emulator or the camera?

Tape-based digital camera. Lots of interference. :P It sounds pretty good to the ear.
But I wouldn't get a GP2X anymore. They've stopped being manufactured, and the community is waiting for newer handhelds like the Pandora and Wiz.

Thanks!
Yep. :) The GP2X is really capable when it comes to emulating the classic consoles. I believe it was running 200mhz(default) out of 260mhz(overclock - 30%).
For more difficult to emulate games, you can improve the framerate with the brute force approach. ;)
The only game that I've encountered that wasn't playable is Yoshi's Island. The SNES cartridge had an extra processing chip for the parallax background layer, and it's a pain to emulate, so it runs at about 15fps. :(

I tripped over the first one, and ended up punching a hole through it. Mk2 has tons of duct tape attached. :P
