Further studies were with Josef Levine in New York, Edward Bairstow in England, Marcel Dupré in Paris and, after his graduation from Curtis in 1940, with Charles Courboin (Saint Patrick's Cathedral, NYC, 1943-1973) and Charles Heinroth.

I think this piece of music (of which I'm not even sure of its origin or meaning other than its title "in remembrance") brings me into a cherished spirit of thankfulness for the here and the now. The people, places, experiences, thoughts, memories, and hopes that I have for my time on earth. It is a reminder to me that I shouldn't take anything or anyone for granted. This song, for most of which has more of a somber, sober feeling, ends with a happy note of expectancy. Time is still left :)

What a beautiful composition by Purvis which I did not know of until just hearing it now...........and I thought I knew ALL of his works for Organ! In some ways it reminds me of his "Romanza" within some areas of the piece having similar harmonies. A perfect choice for a Prelude to worship. And played with such feeling.

this piece is beautiful and you play it wonderfully. The oboe solo is amazing. I have looked to no end to find the sheet music. I am a church organist and would love to have it. do you know where I could purchase a copy? Matt McGarvey, Kentucky
