I used a 9ft. steel cable from home depot for 2$, with around 350lb strength.

This was just a proof of concept to see if the theory worked. I don't know how high you can lift it in one go with a shorter or longer cable. I had to tie 2 bowlines on the cable because a reef knot wouldn't work. You might replace the stick with a metal rod like rebar.

I think the movie I saw it in was "shanghai noon".

I wonder if the guy who built coral castle used anything similar to this because in some of the pictures he has a cable holding up a stone.
