The weeks passed more slowly than ever, Nick learned to understand and accept the fact that his relationship with Selena would never be the same like it was before. He spent cold nights praying that her father would somehow make it through the hours of darkness; the thought of Selena losing her father was eating him alive, the pain was twisting inside of him...he had to do something.
The sound of his old Chevy truck starting resonated through the silent land; he had to say something, so many questions were racing through his mind, an answer, that's all he wanted.
He drove past the hotel, past the Diner, and straight to Mr. Gomez's house; he was a man of few words or so he thought, all Nick knew was that he was a very honest man...when it didn't come to business. From a distance he can see the figure of the old two story house forming, he smiled to himself remembering the last time he stepped foot into that house; memories of that night came flashing in, he can still feel her warm breath trickling down his bare skin.
As the engine came to a stop, he second thought his decision; what if Selena was in there? What if Scott and Selena where in there? He let out a much needed breath before stepping out into the driveway. With no hesitation, he quickly knocked on the door; the sound of heavy footsteps echoed through the house, as much as he wanted to turn around and go back to the comfort of his own house...he knew he had to do this.
"Nick..." his soft voice said sounding surprised, "what brings you here".
Nick looked into the eyes of the man who had raised the women he had desperately fallen in love with, "Mr. Gomez can we talk?" he said firmly while hoping he didn't sound like the teenage boy he once sounded like back when they first met.
Raising his eyebrows at the abrupt question Nick had just asked, Mr. Gomez simply nodded his head not knowing what may come next; "come on in son" Nick couldn't help but feel warm inside at the sound of Selena's father calling him son, something he always imagined happening since the day he saw the Gomez family pulling up into the diner.
"I was just about to feed Luna, you can wait in here or..."
"I can help" Nick said following Mr. Gomez into the back, the sound of awkward silence filled the air; it didn't take long for Mr. Gomez to figure out why Nick was really here, he just didn't know how to start such a conversation.
"I'm guessing your mother told you" the question quickly brought Nick to a halt, "I can see it your face, you are terrified not knowing if the father of the women you love is going to die today or next year".
Nick couldn't believe he was so calm about the situation, "why haven't you told her, she needs to know" he asked as he continued walking down to where the horses were.
"Nick, I think it's time I tell you the real reason why Selena came back" his voice sounding stern as he took a seat in the hay that was placed right by Luna, Selena's horse. Mr. Gomez took a deep breath before taking a quick glance at a confused Nick, he was about to do something that has been eating him up since the day he saw his only daughter lose another part of her.
"About six months ago I was diagnose with pancreatic cancer, I did my therapy and tried moving on with my life normal as possible; about four months later I stopped responding to any treatment, the doctors told me I'll be lucky if I made it past September" Nick watched as he took a deep steady breath, "Nicholas, that's why I asked her to come back just for this summer; I need to spend as much time with her, and..."
"I-I want you to be there for her when my time comes to an end, she's going to need you...more than ever" Mr. Gomez gave him a warm smile, "she loves you, she never stopped; I ruined the only good thing my daughter had" he said as a few tears came down his rosy cheek.
"W-what do you mean?" Nick watched the man in front of him slowly break down.
Mr. Gomez looked at the man Nick had become, the man his daughter has never stopped loving; "I took her away because she was pregnant with your child, Nicholas; my pride was more important than my own daughters happiness" he cried out while Nick's body completely shut down.

@PINAYL0VE she had a miscarriage, therefore the child was never born. && Selena never did tell Nick :)
