1995 British Open - Worst Tee Shot - Ian Baker-Finch St. Andrews

In 1995 Ian Baker-Finch while playing with Arnold Palmer during the 1st round of the British Open snapped hooked his ball OB off the 1st tee. The fairway at the 1st is one of the widest in the world, it is a double fairway 1&18.

I played St Andrews last year (what an amazing place!). My brother was 5 yards from going OB left from the 1st tee, and then actually went OB left off the 18th! Anyone who has been to St Andrews will know when I say, that is a LONG way left!!!

Ian seemed to recover his confidence as time went along - the 68 at Colonial in '09 was an example of it. But by then, he'd quit playing golf as a career and wanted to be a broadcaster. He played well in a couple of senior events last year, though.

Played here a few times..hit my 2nd shot into the dyke once..dropped for 3 chipped in for 4..get in!

IBF never lost his swing .... he lost the mental ability to play tournament golf. I remember seeing him on the practice fairway at Royal Qld a few years ago. He was hitting perfect shot after perfect shot ..... I mean, these shots were really things of beauty.

But he just couldn't put it together on the course when it mattered :(

this is probably quite literally...the widest fairway in all of golf. the fairway is 120 yards wide (its a double hole shared with 18th for those who dont know)...what is little known...is that that was actually his 3rd shot as he hit the first one out of bounds to the right lol. missed the "widest fairway in all of golf" on BOTH sides
