Magnolia won Sweepstakes. Mt. Carmel took High Music.

People get wrapped up in the idea of "the underdog" even though Magnolia clearly was a hot contender back in the day. Showmanship for me is so subjective....it boggles my mind how Arcadia (even Mt. Carmel) lost to Magnolia. I respect the Judges opinion but IMO from the videos you can tell that both Arcadia and Mt. Carmel put on a more powerful- crowd pleasing performance...and a lot of people out there would agree that Arcadia should have won that day.

Wesh High School class of 82. Arcadia was so arrogant. I always remember them turning over their banner at the awards ceremony. It said "Sweepstakes,"on the back, like they knew they would win. (they always did). When they got first , WE WENT CRAZY and were LAUGHING SO hard.....and then to be beaten by a class C band! We couldn't stop laughing and talking about it. They were so moted!!!! HAHAHAHA What a great thing our last competition, SR year!!!!

It amazes me that no one posting here sees anything? The Banner Carriers are out of Phase as well as out of step! LOL! Also the last rank?? Hello its all off to steps? And the Clarinets using wrong notes.. Big Doesn't mean better. Its how you use it!!

Its an easy march! They lost all year to Magnolia not just the all -western. The fact that they had half their band and mostly upper classmen only marching and Magnolia had to use everyone in their band is what makes what Magnolia did more amazing. A class C band beat that ass on the street all year.

Thanks for the info flute! Glad to hear it ended up with Arcadia! If it is the same one,Its 7'2" tall, and should have Antelope Valley HS engraved on it at least twice! "78 & "79 I think,and maybe one other year before that! Great to see Arcadia is as awesome as ever,wish my old hs band was too,but they're not(AVHS). I've got a pic of that trophy somewhere, when I find it I'll scan it and post it on here!

well they had one more year until the band review got discontinued

and they beat magnolia that year aka 1983

so i think arcadia did end up with the VERY last all western band review trophy

and ive seen the temple city one where they one sweepstakes for classes C-E

its HUGE...and it looks extremely heavy
