C4 celebrated April Fools' Day 2011 by sneakily removing the 4 logo from their idents.

In all, four "clean" versions of the regular idents were used throughout the day: Downtown (New York), Diner, Tokyo and Docks.

  • Here's what the should do on channel 4's next anniversary:

Replace the 4 from the idents with the coloured blocks that were used in the 80s.

  • They should've called it Channel Nothing for the entire day.

  • I never saw these, it's quite weird. That means the elements that make up the '4' must be seperate layers to the rest of the footage.

  • GILLY? GILLY? JILLY?

  • @LoafOfPint Yeah, act as if they're going to say "Channel Four", but stop abruptly after saying "Channel".

  • @MattTheSpratt Or just 'Channel'.

  • "No 4"!

  • It shows how clever the idents are as the blocks look realistic with the texturing and fit the scenes perfectly.

  • sense of idents is missed..and thats funny

  • April fool indeed.

the idents look so different without the floating channel four blocks in them.
