This movie had too many plotholes, but as Dom Cobb said himself, it's only when you wake up you realize that something was actually strange. This movie is like a dream. After you've watched it, you see how strange and unreal it was. Come on, a suitcase that lets you go into dreams? Like a flux capacitor. Doesn't need an explanation because it's just imagination, just a dream. I think that's the whole point of the movie.
