Good comment, but no no no - the point we were trying to make is that this violence was brutal, but it was totally Hollywood-ized. and fetishized. Gibson wants us to believe that the violence is bad and he tries to shock with it, but he wants us to get off on it just like any other action movie, too!

about the movie - nobody ever claimed it to be base on true events or true maya culture - it is a STORY written by mel gibson - and gibson was only a CO-WRITER not the sole creator. this movie is badass regardless of validity

and the viloence in the movie is based off of historical fact, depicts the brutal side of mayan culture - how is it violence for violence's sake when the guy is obv running & fighting for his life..hence the whole concept of the movie.
