The USMNT doesn't have to win this Saturday's qualifier in Sandy, Utah, against El Salvador, but losing a home game is not an option in a group of nations so tightly packed.

So you prepare like it is a must win.

As the MNT begins their final push towards qualification for South Africa next summer, they know they will need to be at their very best, because at this point in the progression the dreams of every nation hang on the result of each game. The little guys become giant killers and the giants must stand their ground. That means being prepared for battle.

Before the national anthems, before the stadiums fill with fans, before the bright lights turn on, making the difference on game day means putting in the time at training. National team fitness coach Barrieu is charged with getting the player in shape to handle the rigors of international soccer. In the video above, he explains one of the drills used by the MNT by putting Charlie Davies and Michael Bradley through the workout.

  • uhhh why the hell do they not do it with a ball...no wonder they can't dribble past defenders even if their lives depended on it. this is soccer, not american football, we run with a ball on our feets, not in our hands. agility drills without a ball is pretty worthless.

  • Bradleys a bitch!!! daddy boy.

  • The US needs to play off each other.Win as a team.

  • Put Charlie Davies back on the team

Please look at those rosters. I promise you that Aguirre took a really good team to win the Gold Cup, and save his job. That Gold Cup meant nothing. The only ones that count are the ones after a World Cup (i.e. this year's), because they send you to the next Confederations Cup. We will see both Mexico and the US with full teams this summer. It will be fun to watch.
