Twitter for iPhone is a new app made by, who else? Twitter.com. Twitter recently partnered up with an independent iPhone/Mac twitter client, Tweetie, who had already made two apps, Tweetie 1 & 2. Shortly before Twitter for iPhone was released (May 18th), Tweetie 2 was taken off the app store. Why did Twitter pick Tweetie? Tweetie has been renouned for its clean, easy-to-use interface which is very prevalent in the Twitter for iPhone app. Enough of the background information, let's get into the app. This app is, for one thing, free of charge which is understandable seeing as it's THE Twitter app, that people who use Twitter, which is free as well, will use, if they charged for it, it would seem like more of an independent app, and I don't see a pro or premium edition coming. Tweetie was $2.99 on the Apple App Store and now that they are pretty much re-releasing the app under a different name but free, will Tweetie lose money? Definitely not, they are partners with one of the top 3 social networking companies in the world and the top for micro-blogging. To start out on the app, you can setup multiple twitter accounts, or setup a new account, and you have the option to use a custom API root for advanced users. Once in the interface you are brought to a basic twitter iphone client interface dashboard, Tweets from whom you're following, @ Replies, messages, Search (includes Trending Topics and Suggested Users), and the settings panel. What sets this app apart from others is its unique interface with little features that will probably boost your enthusiasm for using it. When viewing others' tweets, you can swipe across the tweet to present you with new options including: @Reply, retweet, favoriting the tweet, viewing the tweeter's profile, the link they provided in the tweet (which you can use in your own tweet or share with others with email), all features from Tweetie's former app. On the compose message page, you have the option for portrait or landscape views and generic tweet options: Camera, Photo Library/Camera Roll, geotag the tweet, @usename mentions, #hashtags, and a url-shrinker (you can specify which one you prefer). Reading messages is just like the Mail application loaded on your iPhone/iPod Touch, option to mark all as read and viewing the conversation in IM/messenger form. When viewing a person's profile you can see their followers, who they follow, their tweets and favorites, and their bio and such, nothing new. You can add people as a contact as well as share it, you can see their lists and view blocking options, still the same. On the search page, you can search for people and tweets (of course), you can view featured tweets in and slidebar fashion, see the latest #Trending Topics and browse through Suggested Users, the same as Twitter.com's. In your profile you can edit personal information: Actual Name (not @username), location, Website Url, and your bio. As i mentioned before, the app lets you customize your Photo/Video uploader, url-shortener, and "Read it Later" services that you want the app to use (you can have different settings for different accounts), as well as some extras. Don't know if you will be able to understand the app? Don't worry, there's a manual, with options from the basics to advanced topics also with tips and tricks. The user ability can be understood from first time users to full time coders/twitterers. This, I think resembles an Apple Mac computer, simple enough for a child to use, but can be very advanced and in depth if you want it to be.

Thoughts:
This app has a ton of features that make it the definitive Twitter app, litterally. There isn't one thing that is wrong with it, not a pickle out of place. Twitter and Tweetie made it right this time. I am a current Tweetdeck user because of its ability to synchronize with my desktop client and my iPhone one. Tweetdeck also has a unique and unmatched interface of its own using collums that works as a docking station on my desktop so when I am doing work, I can see real-time updates from people whom I follow. Even though this can be stracting and can be bad for focusing and concentration, it's still a nice bonus. Now that Twitter for iPhone has come out, it ranks up there with Tweetdeck if not neck and neck as a serious competitor. I may use Twitter for iPhone for my iPod Touch from time to time now, switching off with Tweetdeck, but I think that a lot of other iPhone twitter clients will perish with a new Twitter-run, Tweetie-like, free app around the block, I think it will most likely dominate most of the independent competition. This a great app for anyone who uses or wants to use Twitter for their iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. The Twitter for iPhone application, only on the App Store.
