From consumer products to transportation, the creative design process always starts with a sketch. Industrial designers across industries first draw their ideas on paper and then, as the project evolves, move to 3D to explore the design volumes and proportions.
CATIA V6 introduces CATIA Natural Sketch, a new breakthrough 3D sketching experience that finally brings together the intuitiveness of creative 2D painting gesture and the power of accurate, realistic 3D modeling.
This first-of-its-kind lifelike creative experience helps designers to free up their creativity and share their ideas more rapidly and precisely.
It also allows them to quickly transform their 2D ideas into a 3D reality;
as well as explore design details and alternatives by sketching directly on existing 3D models.

Sketching in 3D allows designers to better understand their design in volume, avoid misinterpretations of 2D views, and better communicate their ideas. It also gives designers and design studio teams the ability to use 3D sketches curves to create the 3D model with surface modeling or subdivision surface modeling tools.
CATIA Natural Sketch complements the CATIA for Creative Designers solution to address the complete industrial design workflow with a unified environment, from ideation and concept to refinement and design validation, from the first sketch to the final production-ready 3D product.
By making sketching in 3D truly as intuitive as sketching on paper, CATIA Natural Sketch brings a revolutionary lifelike creative experience that matches designers' needs. CATIA V6 removes emotional barriers towards 3D creation by enabling designers to focus entirely on creativity and design intent and not on how to use the technology.

  • Hi All, Yes this technology is already available in CATIA V6 R2012x for commercial & education packages (on workstation and also On-line).

    It is available in the product package named "CATIA Industrial Design" which includes the following technologies 'Natural Sketch' for 3D Sketching, 'Imagine & Shape' for virtual Clay modeling with Subdivision surfaces, NURBS Surface modeling, Live Shape for Direct modeling & Assembly, Realtime Vis, STL for rapid Prototyping, IGES, STEP and 2D Drafting.

  • People have a right to know if this is a cloud based application or not. Several people asked and you removed the comments. That's lame.

  • @JonBanquer All the CATIA videos on YouTube are open for any feedback, comment or question. Your comments have been removed by error. CATIA Natural Sketch is currently not a Cloud Based Solution, it is based on standard CATIA V6 portfolio, as part of CATIA Industrial Design or CATIA Imagine & Shape products

  • it isnt first of a kind

  • Can you draw people with this?

  • it this using on wacom cintiq?

  • Very awesome and advanced !!!

  • If there was "an app for that", whose results could be ported to SW, I'd buy an iPad for my everyday noodling and doodling.

  • @ewingmachine As far as the one video I have up on You Tube, you are correct I didn't allow commenting. The reason is that that the video is linked to my blog and it's easier for me to manage comments in one place. You will notice at the beginning and the end of the video that I have screenshot with my blogs URL. If you or anyone else hates the video, think it's boring or badly done, etc. and wants to take the time to explain why I'll publish the comments in full on my blog.

  • @ewingmachine I allow comments but I moderate them. I just published your comment in full. I don't censor comments that disagree with me if a detailed reason is given. However, when someone makes a comment that only says something like "You're a "d" bag.", I don't publish that kind of comment.

    I'm sure you can find something on my blog that you totally disagree with. Feel free to comment and explain why you disagree and I'll publish it.
