@WillsEasyGuitar That Van Halen sound is a wonder. I once used a light dimmer wired into an extention chord trying to emulate that variac and blow out all the power in the barrics I was living in. Power back to you as well.

I can't really palm mute, I'm using an acoustic, and I can't afford to lose sound. I also had to add two extra notes to get it to sound right for acoustic, but it still sounds awesome.

In a very old Guitar Player magazine Eddie says he tuned down 1/4 step. If you tune down 1/4 step you will notice the difference. Not being critical here just that there are many who study this stuff and I'm just sharing what I learned.

@ycuy in an old guitar world he also said he had his amps custom changed and ran it through a variac to get the sound he got. It was all a lie told just to help his friend get more work in an amp shop. play along with the album, if you think a 1/4 step down is better than 1/2 step....more power to ya.

@spiffdandy @gr8motive most VH stuff uses delay, reverb, phase, chorus, flanger...in this tune, reverb - delay - touch of chorus - and phase...you can use a flanger, but when using the flange and the phase together, it usually sounds awful. the type of flanger and phase really makes a difference. MXR is the best IMO.
