Is America really broke? Michael Moore (and others) tells us that there are oceans of cash being hoarded by the wealthy. But Iowahawk (iowahawk.typepad.com) did a little addition, and armed with these statistics Bill and the 'Hawk blow a hole in the "hoarding" lie big enough to fit a documentary filmmaker through.

I am Canadian. Isn't it true that the US Founding Fathers did not envision a democracy but a Repulic? "I pledge allegiance to the flag and the REPUBLIC for which it stands." It seems to me that a huge amount of laws and regulations that are passed in both of our countries might look good to some, but in fact infringe upon the rights of others. People voting for the legal ability to take money from others is, in reality, theft. Look up Milton Friedman's views on this topic.

@NoNameC68 You are aware that is just another talking point used by conservatives to deceive you? No matter where you live in the US, you will pay some form of tax one way or another. When it comes to income tax, multiple studies have shown that the 47% ,that republicans claim, is misleading. Even if those numbers were true, those people who don't pay income taxes don't do it because they can't afford to pay them; unlike the rich/corporations who can but use accounting tricks to circumvent them

If you think Moore tells the truth, watch "Michael Moore Hates America" and see how much he twisted facts and situations and people to fit his sick, twisted narrative in his movies. The man is a big, FAT liar and what is worse, he KNOWS what he is doing. At least with some of the conservative blowhards on the radio you can tell they actually believe what they're saying.

@JayDaAsshole At some point ALL money was wages/income, then they get taxed again and again when they invest. And don't forget that when investing they are propping up good businesses with the potential for growth, and this creates jobs. Contrast that to gov stimulus picking winners & losers all while paying off their friends & donors. THAT is real corruption. The top 10% of taxpayers pay 70%!!! of all tax revenue. @NoNameC68 had it right too, over 50% pay no taxes. What is "fair" about that?

@harbar3000 The whole "the US is a republic not democracy" thing is nonsense. I'll say this to you: the Soviet Union was also a republic. The difference is, that the US of A is a liberal indicrect/representative democratic republic.

(& no liberal does not relate to the Democratic Party in this case nor does republic relate to the GOP).
