Here is the uncut footage from a series of commercials for DWI of Cibola County (Grants, New Mexico) in cooperation with NMSU-Grants (New Mexico State University Grants Campus) and Working Boy Productions of Albuquerque, NM. Inspired by the "This is your brain" commercials we use "This is your date... this is your date after you drink." We also use a hip version of the famous "You Drink, You Drive, You Lose" campaign which is "You Booze, You Cruise, You Lose." This commercials will run on KASA Fox in New Mexico during the 2007-2008 school year with the majority run in April and May when most teen drunk driving accidents tend to happen (due to prom and graduation). We encourage your feedback and if you'd like to have us customize this commercial for your own DWI campaign please contact Doug Bocaz-Larson at dbocaz@nmsu.edu

Driving under the influence of alcohol, drunk driving, drinking and driving (North American English), or drink-driving (British/Irish and Australian/New Zealand English), is the act of operating a motor vehicle (and sometimes a bicycle or similar human-powered vehicle) after having consumed alcohol (ethanol) or other drugs, to the degree that mental and motor skills are impaired. It is a crime in most countries around the world. Drunk driving has taken away many lives.
Overview
In addition to driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of other drugs, a third "DUI" offense consists of driving under the combined influence of alcohol and other drugs. The drugs causing or contributing to the impairment need not be illegal, but can consist of lawfully prescribed or over-the-counter medication. Anti-drunk-driving advertising campaigns have aimed to raise awareness of the legal situation and the dangers of driving while intoxicated. Drunk-driving is responsible for a large number of deaths, injuries, damage and accidents every year. In most international jurisdictions, anyone who is convicted of injuring or killing someone while under the influence of alcohol or drugs can be heavily fined, as in France, in addition to being given a lengthy prison sentence.
The specific criminal offense may be called, depending on the jurisdiction, driving while intoxicated (DWI), driving while impaired (also DWI), operating while intoxicated (OWI), operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OMVI), driving under the influence [of alcohol or other drugs] (DUI), driving under the combined influence of alcohol and/or other drugs, driving under the influence per se or drunk in charge [of a vehicle].
this is short, to the point, and is a very good vid

Thanks for watching. It is hard to find a good message that people will remember. Hope this is successful.

Drunk driving is a really hard topic in general. It's a social problem but it is also a transportation problem. In Europe people don't have to drive long distances to get home after a drinking party. Europeans also have great public transportation. We don't especially out West (sometimes no bus or taxi).

drink driving adds in northern ireland are way more graphic than that. if you think thats hard hitting, just watch an NI one

We had a lot of restrictions to deal with for airing it on TV. If it had been too graphic, they would only show it late at night. The main networks in the US have a lot of limits when it comes to sex and violence. It sounds like TV in Northern Ireland doesn't have these limitations?

when it comes to important issues like drink driving, the adds have to grab peoples attention. some people complain about them, but they are effective. plus, they are olny shown after the 9 o'clock watershed.

I agree but if nobody is seeing the ad because it is in a terrible time slot, then what's the point. Plus when planning this ad, I read some studies that showed really violent ads not being as effective as ads that create "lasting images" in people's minds.
