Roy, Dartford, Desert Island Discs.
Roy tells it well.
Of all the tracks, in all the world, I guess this one is the one I've played the most.
In the old days of vinyl, I initially bought 2 copies. Then as they wore, another 2...then three more and so on. I think I must have over 10 copies on vinyl, one copy always remaining mint and unplayed. I didn't know then that Decca would keep it on eternally available and enjoying steady year on year sales.
When I was on Caroline I opened up at 5 a.m., which meant playing the theme, every day, day in, day out. .On or around every Easter Sunday I played this no matter what station I was working for. After tens of thousands of plays, I still catch my breath when I hear it.
