Dwight David Eisenhower (October 14, 1890 -- March 28, 1969) was an American General and politician, who served as the thirty-fourth President of the United States (1953--1961). During the Second World War, he served as Supreme Commander of the Allied forces in Europe, with responsibility for planning and supervising the successful invasion of France and Germany in 1944-45. In 1951, he became the first supreme commander of NATO. As a Republican, he was elected the 34th U.S. President, serving for two terms. As President, he ended the Korean War, kept up the pressure on the Soviet Union during the Cold War, made nuclear weapons a higher defence priority, launched the Space Race, enlarged the Social Security program, and began the Interstate Highway System.

  • Wow, I've never known a war hero to be celebrated to such a degree. Victory must have been definite and absolute. A contrast to today's static & uncertain achievements.

  • Well today the heros are mostly unknown , the media is only interested on the bad people in the army because there got from those story high viewer levels as the from a normal hero.

  • Rapist of the people - worst politician ever!

  • Greatest Republican President ever

  • @Apurlec That just really pisses me off how beyond backwards that is. I don't care so much about the race thing, but this just furthers how Republicans are trying to destroy this country and take everything sacred away from us. They own everything and want to own everything. They also want to make us all slaves just like the Blacks had to once endure for 500 years. That's what's going to happen to us all for another 500 years with their destructive policies.

  • Republican? Not according to his son. Martin Luther King III said, "It is disingenuous to imply that my father was a Republican. He never endorsed any presidential candidate, and there is certainly no evidence that he ever even voted for a Republican. It is even more outrageous to suggest that he would support the Republican Party of today, which has spent so much time and effort trying to suppress African-American votes in Florida and many other states." King actually voted for LBJ in 1964.

  • A great thing about Ike was that he didn't seek the presidential office, both the Republican and the Democratic parties wanted him to be their canidate. ultimately he chose those the Republican party.

  • He was a great man.

  • Wow! The US was actually loved by millions back then!
