Let's also add in the fact that before the Democrats began their ascent into power starting in 2007, the unemployment rate was 4.6% and deficits were less than half what they are now. Obama and Biden were themselves part of Harry Reid's governing majority in the Senate passing policies. Obama and the Democrats inherited a mess when they got back the White House in 2009 - from themselves, which they then made even worse.

How's that European debt and permanent "second rate" status treating you?

Not sure what point they were trying to make when showing America's "economic competitiveness" performing below a bunch of European "socialist" nations.

Is this one of those 'issue ads' where you don't disclose who's paying for it but it really is an attack on one candidate. but, since the firm is too cheap to caption it, some Americans are apparently second class in your narrow-minded heads

And, as I said before, that is a fair point. We should, however, compare similar statistics. The EU has a wide range of economies and treating the EU as a unitary entity can be misleading.

If your broader point is to praise EU's social democracies, that is different. Not choosing to expend as much for defense and depend upon us for that skews the numbers somewhat.

And I think you'll concede that the euro has not yet stabilized, so we don't know where their economies will end up at.

The mess was 2 unfunded wars and an economic downturn due to banks giving out loans like candy with a lack of regulation. Bush and the Democrats are both to blame, however the wars are more on Bush as the Commander in Chief that took us to Iraq for WMDs and a supposed link to terrorists. These are also the largest contributors to the national debt, being exponentially larger than the stimulus or debt from discretionary spending. Check the Congressional Budget Office stats.

My apologies, I "should" not have missed the word "should" in my reply. However, a small grammatical error is not on the same scale as not understanding the basis of the argument. That being that the EU is as a whole is actually better off debt wise than the US despite having social democracies. 85% debt to GDP for the EU compared to 105% for the US (per CIA World Factbook 2011).

Fair enough. And I certainly value the importance of Europe; my hope is that they also value their connection to the United States. My statement was more in response to the mocking tone another commenter made about our election.

I would add that before questioning another's intelligence, proof-read your own post.

"Millions of Americans have simply given up"? Really? Who are they? Who was the source for this bit of information?

I just saw this ad in a California broadcast market that's about 65 percent Democratic. Now, I realize Restore Our Future is a super PAC with... well, almost as much money as Romney himself, but you'd think Charles Spies, Carl Forti, Larry McCarthy and company would have better sense than to waste some of it like that.
