Burma refugees (Part 2)

According to the UN Refugee Agency, the number of refugees to flee Burma and settle in an overseas country reached 50,000 last month. The first leg in the long journey of Burma's internally displaced people usually starts along the Burma-Thai border.

Adding to the pressure is the 'scorched earth campaign' being waged by the army against civilians in the east of Burma. Tens of thousands of people have been internally displaced by this fighting. Late last week a delegation arrived in Australia to ask the government to redirect aid which is not reaching people in these conflict zones.
