Iraq suicide bombing kills scores of military recruits

http://www.timesofearth.com/Worldnews/?NT=0&nid=26297 Baghdad - At least 60 people have been killed in a suicide bomb attack at an army recruitment centre in the Iraqi capital.
Iraqi officials said at least 121 other people were wounded in the blast on Tuesday, when a suicide attacker detonated a bomb as men queued outside the centre in central Baghdad.
The attack occurred at the site of what used to be the defence ministry under Saddam Hussein. The building was turned into an army recruitment centre and military base after the 2003 US-led invasion.
Security forces have been frequent targets of attack since the start of army restructure after the US-led invasion that ousted former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein in 2003.

Attacks, however, have been on the rise Iraq in recent months, as the United States plans to cut its troops in Iraq and Iraqi politicians are seem far from agreeing on new government.
The US plans to cut its troop numbers to about 50,000 by August 31, the date for the formal end of combat operations, from just under 60,000 now.

Fighters who oppose the foreign military presence in Iraq and do not recognise post-war political process, are appear to be trying to take advantage of a vacuum as Iraqi politicians squabble over positions in a new government more than five months after an inconclusive March 7 election.
