i was a little disappointed with 'April'. As good as it was, i kind of wish Mark didn't revert back to the RHP styie of writing songs that overstay their welcome.

This song is great, but the last 2 or so minutes could have easily been jettisoned without effecting the mood and feel of the overall piece.

'Ghosts Of The Great Highway' is his best work IMO. Better than anything he recorded with RHP.

i disagree. the changes in the last 2 minutes make the song for me. 'april' is SKM's best album yet, if only for 'tonight in bilbao.'

Can you recommend me good cds by this guy? I downloaded an album when he was with RHP but idk... And I'm too nervous to bite the bullet and buy one of his cds out of fear it'll suck.

if RHP wasn't your bag, try Sun Kil Moon 'Ghosts Of The Great Highway'. It features all the elements of his style, but in a more compact form. There is only one long song on there, and it's divided into 'movements' almost. it's not just riff or chord progression or melody played over and over.

If you don't like G.O.T.G.H, then his music isn't for you.

peace

Baha, thanks. I'll give that a try. Btw my RHP experience is limited to literally one album. So, what's their best? I have April by Sun Kil Moon and it's just lovely, so...

Well said. Sometimes he devolves into a very wan and and predictable kind of folk that leaves me dry. A little guitar dirt always serves him well.
