I know some sheikhs whom I have prayed behind did give a short pause after they recited fatihah but most just continue. And to be honest I sounds weird to be reciting fathihah while the imam is reciting something else. You d rather want to listen.
But cant you also recite alongside with the imam (on fatihah)? Allah knows best.
