Afro Argentines

This video is about the African presence in Argentina. It includes a brief history of Afro Argentine and famous Afro Argentines. It is in English and Spanish.

The term Afro Argentine is referring to someone of African living in and/or from Argentina and/or having roots in Argentina. Of course, African descendants have other roots and lineages too.

All comments that I find offensive, racist, stereotypical and negative will not be approved. Please be respectful.

It should be noted that many persons of African descent in "Latin" America and the Caribbean do not refer to themselves as, "Afro + nationality" but either as "negros", "afrodescendiente" or by their nationality.

@unique5589 Nice video and probably anything closer to the truth on Black & Mixed-race Argentinians one had seen on Youtube. However, let's be frank here. One of the foremost reason for the demise of Black & Mixed-race people in Argentina was Number 5 - the state sanctioned genocide of Blacks & Mixed-race folks in the country. This policy was in place until the end of the 1960's. Most Nazis from Germany after WW2 settled in Argentina for decades. No surprise there. Just stating facts, no beef.

@H1MLA Thank you for the comment. Let me also be frank here, I am not denying that the Argentine government played a role in the demise of Black Argentines. I put nothing past racist governments. If I missed that point in the video then my apologizes. Anyone can go on google and type "Black Argentine genocide" and there will be links with information. I know you're just stating facts, and ain't nobody trying to deny those facts. Oh yeah, "no beef". ;)

Many years ago, I met a Black Argentinian in New York. She never complained of being discriminated in Argentina. If anything, she mentioned how the men "spoiled" her with attention.

Yet she said that it felt "lonely" being one of the few Blacks, and had looked forward to going to the US to meet other people that look like her. She liked Black men. Is that supposed to be wrong? Her brother-in-law in BA was a White guy.

@CaramelMamiChula Sarmiento was of Arab and Spanish ancestry. Sarmiento didn't bleach Argentina simply because in Argentina is a multiracial and multiethnic country.

Argentina is a multiracial and multiethnic and multicultural country, I feel lucky to live in a country like this. The other day I was walking around in my small town and I've met two guys from Senegal, I think that's great, that people from places such as Senegal are coming to live in muy country.

@H1MLA Most Nazis from Germany settled in EEUU and in many others countries!. That has nothing to do with the story in the video.We have one of the largest jewish population in the world. I am argentinian am proud of black people who, for example were part of the army of general San Martin. You must know about a country before speaking. Thousands of inmigrants still arrives here ( africans too!!) even when there are a lot of poor argentinian and a lot of economic problems.
