Bloomberg Records Robocall and Stumps for Rep. McCarthy in Mineola

HEMPSTEAD, NY (Oct. 28, 2010) -- New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg is actively throwing his support behind Rep. Carolyn McCarthy against her Tea Party opponent, with a robocall hitting the 4th Congressional District and the two campaigning together this morning at the Mineola LIRR station.

The robocall, and photos from today's campaign stop, are on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=64u83gdvC5U

In the call, Mayor Bloomberg says:

"Hi, this is Mayor Mike Bloomberg. I'm calling to ask you to vote for my friend, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy. I've known and worked with Carolyn for years. She's a tireless advocate for Long Island families, and an effective bipartisan congresswoman with a long history of working to create jobs and protect jobs. You can count on Carolyn to stand up for Long Islanders and the state of New York. Please vote on November 2nd and return Carolyn McCarthy for Congress so she can continue to do what's right for us. Thank you."

Rep. McCarthy and Mayor Bloomberg have a long history of working together to fight illegal guns and gun violence. McCarthy is known nationwide as Congress's main advocate for curbing illegal guns, while Mayor Bloomberg has testified on the topic in Washington and is the co-chair and co-founder of the nationwide Mayors Against Illegal Guns.

"I'm always happy to work with Mayor Bloomberg, and am so proud to have his endorsement," Rep. McCarthy said today. "This is illustrates a major difference between my opponent and I; while my opponent advances hyper-partisanship, I have a record of working with people of all political persuasions behind the common goal of fighting for our communities and our economy."

Joining Mayor Bloomberg and Rep. McCarthy this morning was State Senator Craig Johnson, who is also running for re-election.

Congresswoman McCarthy has been endorsed by Newsday, the Nassau Herald and the Long Island Jewish World. She has also been endorsed by a broad array of advocacy and labor organizations, including the political action committees for the Nassau County PBA, the Nassau County Detectives' Association, NARAL Pro-Choice New York, Planned Parenthood, the Alliance for Retired Americans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the League of Conservation Voters, the NYS Nurses Association, the Long Island Federation of Labor, the NYS AFL-CIO, and the Long Island Federation of Labor.
