  • Yes, this is a GREAT way to start animal drawings. Eventually, your hand will figure out how to do the shapes (those books on how to draw cats, dogs, etc are helpful.) Try it both ways.

  • Excellent! I was going to teach my kids that technique. It's a great way for them to feel good about their paintings before they learn more drawing techniques.

  • They can still sketch over the guidelines. Pure tracing is boring. Many "real" artists use this technique to get proportions correct.
