Dramatic falls on stock markets in Asia and US - 24 Feb 09

The stock markets in Asia and the US have fallen sharply in recent days.

In New York, the Dow Jones closed at its lowest point for nearly 12 years on Monday.

In Japan, the government is considering buying shares itself in an attempt to stabilise the markets.

Al Jazeera's Harry Fawcett reports.

Why would you assume that it gives me pleasure to think of the US losing its superpower status. Jeez....I'm American! Israel will fade away to insignificance sometime in the future, there's a grassroots movement across the world that is finally starting to recognize the illegitimacy of the Israeli occupation...it will take some time, but you will see a change...why am I so sure? b/c israel offers absolutely nothing of significance to the US- no oil, nothing. As US superpower status lessens to some degree- you will see more diplomacy w/ Arab countries and Iran
