  • I’ve practically stopped buying bluray because HD is meaningless unless the colour brightness is true to 35/70mm which is its not! Only a few small titles (a few small) on this lousy format look good and a few isn’t good enough!

  • Its down to the telecine and the colour balance that makes up for the difference. I’d say the DVD is on equal level as most second edition DVD end up with lousy colour balance and brightness that washes out image detail then it ends up being used on bluray which gives bluray such a bad name for a HD format! Same goes with the classic Dolby mixes that end up getting fake stereo surrounds.

  • @Mattman003 ... NO! Maybe you haven't configured your TV correctly (or your player) but Star Trek is actually one of the best looking Blu-rays around. HD isn't a con - Look at the specs, the difference can't possibly go unnoticed.

  • dude its supposed to sound better too its 54mp and the reagular dvd disks r just up to 12mp mab get surround sound if u dont have it.

  • I just bought my first blue ray (the new j.j. abrams Star Trek) and watched on my HD big screen, and I noticed that it's quality looks like a regular DVD, while some of the new released DVD's I have purchased recently have a lesser quality than older releases. Something fishy's goin on here, it seems like a tactic to cut costs and sell more blue rays at 50% higher prices, has anyone else noticed this?
