On September 8-9, 2011 swiftwater rescue teams from Region 13 (13 countries in Western Pennsylvania) deployed to the eastern side of Commonwealth to provide technical rescue support to local communities that were being hard hit by flooding. The following clip show just a few examples of rescue personnel efforts. Team 4 (Somerset and Butler County) rescued an individual from a tractor trailer, rescued and evacuated individuals and animals from High Meadow Campground near Hersey Park, assisted with evacuation of residents in Middletown, and worked the Middletown Borough Electric and Met Ed personnel to transfer electric service from one electrical substation to another so that Middletown could have electrical service. The last part of the clip is of a vehicle in the water that the Team 3 (Westmoreland County) was involved with.

A great team effort by everyone who was involved in the deployment from Region 13!

  • DUMB DUMB DUMB 1. you have standing water between you and the ground grid! what happen to FE'S dielectric shoe rule for switching? 2. you have to be clear of the breaker because it could explode! dispatch asks on every order ... all personal and equipment in the clear? 3. opening switches as your standing under them... JUST DUMB! INSULATORS THAT WEIGHT 100lbs OR MORE DO BREAK!

to much focus on the video camera and making stupid comments that the real danger of what you were doing was lost!

  • @hntrscot The power to the entire community of Middletown was shut down before we entered. Our task was to get all breakers/switches off so power could be diverted to another substation. Middletown was then able to have critical power. My humor helps me relieve stress...I can see why you could take it the wrong way. We put our trust in the electrical workers and they in us (rescue boat crew). I learn from every experience. Thank you for your comments and be safe! Chris

  • chris, maybe i came off wrong! but i am sure there was a better way in isolating that substation without exposing you and your crew to our danger! rather have a few people out of power then have a life lost over an unsafe act!

chris, thank you for your service!
