Bobby Roth, an executive director of the David Lynch Foundation, explains that there has never been any major research studies showing Transcendental Meditation to have negative effects.
Transcript:
"There are hundreds of studies conducted at places like Harvard Medical School, Stanford Medical School, UCLA, Yale, and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Institutes of Mental Health. Hundreds of studies look carefully at Transcendental Meditation and report on the positive effects of Transcendental Meditation.
In the last 40 years there has never been a single study conducted at any major university or research institution and published in any significant scientific journal that has even shown Transcendental Meditation to produce anything other then positive effects. There has never been a studying showing that Transcendental Meditation has any harmful side effects in any way shape or form. And this is very important, and this is reason why the national institutes of health have continued to fund research on Transcendental Meditation over the past 25 years."
Years ago, a friend who was a regular practitioner of this type of meditation told me that she seemed to have so much more time in the day, even though she meditated twice for 20 minutes each.
Many years ago I learnt how to do it, but as always, I slipped up! I still remember my mantra so I will give it another bash because I need to destress!

I have had horrible experiences while meditating, however it is usually vipassana meditation. Never had done tm, but did a mantra meditation in which (I dont remember clearly) I think it was going not so well for a period.

i wish christians would grasp this....they teach that TM is dangerous because demons can get in your head...I beg to differ...I believe if anything..Your more aware of whats around you when you meditate than if not
