So, I'm thinking about getting a canary. i dont want any type of parrot cuz i wont have time to spend with it. would a canary be good for me? are they too loud? If i were to just shut the door would i still be able to hear it? Do they need toys and how big does thier cage have to be? can they be finger tamed? sry for all the questions I just need to know these things before i can get one. Yes, I've already done research but i want other peoples opinions too. thanks.

A canary is probably the best type of bird. Budgies can bite because of the shape of their beak and Parrots take up too much space.

Canaries also like company but can be left on their own for part of the day.

Canaries are not too loud but they will sing - you would be best to go to a pet shop/store to judge how loud they are.

They need a cage about 20 inches x 14 inches x 18 inches as a guess but they need to be let out to fly each day and they should automatically eventually go back into the cage to get food. They do not like being caught or handled as they are timid.

A canary may not sing at first but if you play Youtube videos of other canaries it will probably start singing.

They definetely like mirrors and swings but do not really play with any toys.

They are timid so I am not sure if you could finger tame them but if you're very lucky you could train them to eat from your hand.

You need to make sure that every day you change their food and water, clean the bottom of the cage and they like lettuce and a piece of apple or fruit daily. They also like millet and seed blocks.

You will need to cut their nails about 2 or 3 times a year and you need to make sure that you CAREFULLY READ up on this as you could cut a vein in their nail if you do not read up on this. They do not like being handled. A veterinarian will be be to do this if you prefer.

I suggest that you get a canary and a pet store will give you advice on what they need and their care.

Can I ask you something? :( my canary is changing wigs and now he doesn't sing anymore! :( Can you give me reasons why?

Why would you cage a being whose gift is flight? The bird isn't singing its screaming.

@Twime777 no there not social animals they like to be left and thay only spend time whith the hens in breeding season .maybe you could put some together but they nit alot of space .

well they need a bell a mirror and a swing for toys and if you such the door the nois would be herd a tiny bit they sing not too loud but they sing as loud as you talk to your friends as loud as that and they dont haf to be finger tamed
