Liturgical chant of the Coptic Orthodox Church "Hos Erouf"

A curious custom of the Coptic Church is the liturgy that prays and sings it in Coptic, the original language of ancient Egypt. The Church keeps alive the language of the pharaohs, which was written in hieroglyphics, hieratic and demotic and now a modified version of the Greek alphabet, Egyptian written in Greek and demotic (the Copt) was gradually being forgotten, lost ground to the Arabic and thus became incomprehensible. However, the Coptic Church preserved the ancient Egyptian language by tradition thanks to its rites. The video shows images and also religious Copts of pharaonic Egypt, the Copts are the descendants of the ancient Egyptians who have become Christians.

  • @DappyMilk my heart goes out to your shallow mind may god be with you and show you the true power of peace and positive energy

  • @Egyptiancoptic But how many speakers of coptic there are? Even nowadays Egypt is connected to ancient Egypt by the language: i feel vertigo!!!

  • i wonder who disliked this????

  • Sometimes I feel like we should make Arabic our second language instead of our official language and return to our old language, it's so beautiful.

Long live peace and equality in Egypt and long live our Christian brothers and sisters. All Egyptians who are native Egyptians are Copts, Muslims and Christians.

    From an Egyptian Muslim. :D

  • This is truly lovely and moving. I am going through Youtube checking out the Coptic hmyns. Does anyone have a translation? When does one sing this? Is it for a specific holiday or event?

Much love to my Coptic brothers and sisters from a Muslim Egyptian.

Christian and Muslim: we are all Egyptian!

  • I am neither Christian nor Egyptian, but I find the Coptic language beautiful and fascinating. It is indeed a shame that so few speak it nowadays.

  • Just a little question: do the coptic christian have the right of ringing their belles in Egypt?

Actually it's a beautiful chant, God bless the christians of Egypt!

  • Dappy, the Egyptians are not Arabs! they are Copts, and the Arabs invaded Egypt, bringing Islam with them. Egypt was indigenously pagan, and later Christian. Islam was a later addition, brought by conquest and immigration. God bless you, and show you His true peace.
