@moongirl05 You had said that this "mama duck responded to the calls". She does not have to be the biological mother, she was interested in taking the chicks off your hands. if you did drop the chicks off in the middle of the night, there would be a surrogate.

that is actualy very sad. Keep them around the mother as mutch as possible. put the chicks by the mother in the dark and RUN! they will instinctivly saty by there mom.

I would fundamentally agree with you, except in this case the mother had abandoned them. The duck in this video is not their mother.

I guess it's just nature. We were the first ones they saw when they were born. We handled them all the time and they just knew to follow us. Instinct.

what if you just run and lost them so that they can't find you anymore?
what do they do?once you reappear do they start following you again?

Lol, if we ran they would chase us. We never tried to lose them, but when we were out of their sight, they would start peeping loudly until we reappeared, then they'd come scrambling over to us.
