  • To you all, Paul might not be an opera singer, who cares? I think he is. He is bringing me to tears and that is, what it's all about. Music is emotions. If it's touching my heart and soul, it's emotion, music and I feel good. Sorry for my bad English, I'm from Germany...Still....Hugs and kisses for you in the UK for sharing something so wonderful with the rest of world.

    I think you are missing the point here. He has managed to touch the hearts of millions of people. Now, many of these have trained ears, and many do not. I have seen and heard countless opera singers who have been...opera singers. They have been trained up to their eyeballs, yet could not come even close to Paul Potts' fabulous and inherent ability to move, to reach out and touch others emotionally.

  • @Thymesareachangin I've told people this a few times. Unfortunately, critics of classical and opera have spent so much time focusing on perfect pitch and vibrato , that they've completely forgotten that music is to touch people emotionally. Paul may not be perfect (i wouldn't know), but I dont know any other opera singer that connects so immediately with their voice. I just haven't heard it. People have tried to show me, but Paul always seems to have a hint of sadness in what he sings.

  • Untrained working class noboby: That was Paul. Mostly likely fits the description of the people bitching about him. Hop up on the stage & do it better. Yes there are opera Gods in the history of music & Paul isn't one of them. But I give him all the credit in the world, & I'm glad he got the chance sing for the world. & the Educated Idiots out there need to realize that they don't stand any higher then the rest of us in this world...

    Unfortunately, people cannot resist the opportunity to put someones talents down, and for what reason? It has been my experience that the worst offenders are lacking what they criticize most mercilessly.

  • I am so glad you have the nerve to write it as it is; I dont know why people just want to compare; they should just listen and enjoy his wonderful voice which by the way gives me goosebumps all the time;

  • To all the people on here who have nothing better to do than argue semantics and such forth...get your heads out of your asses and get a life! If you don't think he sings opera and you want to hear opera, watch a different Youtube video, I'm tired of these fanatics posting messages on here...if you hate it that much, go blow yourself up in protest! He's a good singer, he's got talent, he caught a break, and he's a nice guy! So fuck off!

  • Opera singer or not, Time To Say "Chill", he is singing songs that have been around for years, sang by many people with different background, different styles, accent, etc ...and has been able to capture thousands/millions of hearts; I say cherish the new breath of fresh air, enjoy the moment! and be happy for the guy. My other point is, he made it, he rose from the dark ( millions of us who wish, hope, sing during showers) and is leaving his dream in broad day light. Bet you can't beat that !

  • actually Pavarotti was very humble man, despite his great talent. Many great performers are filled with self-doubt, it is the drive to always strive for improvement. However, if Paul gets more people interested in opera, then that's great. He has a certain tenacity and you can tell he really wants it, so while he may not be the "best", he is certainly deserving and has his own unique way of connecting with people, and better connects with those who are far from being gods
