my final project for color theory class.
color schemes:
1. split complementary (yellow and violet, yellow green and red-violet) intense
2. split complementary (red and green, blue and orange) neutral/pastel
3. analogous warm (red, orange, yellow)
4. analogous cool (blue, blue-violet)
5. achromatic (black, greys, white)

My experiment was to see if a neutral facial expression could arouse different emotions in the viewer by only manipulating the color. So what do you guys think?

  • those are awesome! I get the throwing out all scissors and such... I tried the art major thing for my first semester of college and some of the assignments really made me hate art.

  • Thank you! Yes, I have had many of those moments as well where I re-think my major, but I'm learning more and more that art isn't always something that just happens but is a product of many many hours of process work, tears, re-dos, rip-ups, failed attempts, and lessons learned. I still love it though :)

  • was that a scissors lookalike pose at the end? hahaha. i think its super cool! but 13hours is crazy!! i can never sit down for 13hours! i like the second one!

  • Haha it was more of a "Okay, say goodbye. I know, I'll make a peace sign. Wait.. you're too tired/not cool enough to pull that off tonight. Ah well...just stop recording.." pose. Thanks!! :)

  • well done

  • thanks very much :)

  • they look great! I think the first (blue green one) is my fave :]

  • that was cute. I know the time it takes to do art seems like a lifetime...well i guess it is? hahaha

  • That's an awesome idea. My colour theory class was way less involved. All we did was colour pictures with pencil crayon lol.

  • You look knackered! But the portraits are great, and colour definitely makes a difference to how the expression is perceived.

  • Great work! ^^

    Ah...I know that feeling...

It's starts like `I gotta sum reawwy kewl music-idea` and then, after working two days straight on the computer and in the studio, ITS FINALLY DONE...and you are about to rip all your CDs and throw the radio outta the window...

Especially when your friends are dumbstruck by the divinity of your work...

    Feels good! XD

  • It definitely makes a big difference to the feel of the portraits. I feel most comfortable with number 4, but like you said above, the idea of the project was to promote _different_ reactions, not just the most aesthetically pleasing version.

  • yow-za, ur artistic talent nvr ceases to amaze

    like the one at 0:47

  • I'm easily distracted so I had to mute the mellow music to see the subtle differences.

    Great work!...very Andy Warhol-like :P

  • The 3rd looked like when someone shines a flash light real close to their face, and the 4th one looked like you're submerged under water, and only a tiny portion of your face is above the surface. I actually like the 2nd one the best, cause I like how the pink and white seems to naturally connect with each other and the other colors around the nose and face are dark, making it look more expressive. All that work paid off, nice job!
