Depends on what your goal is. One on one unarmed barfight. karate would be adequate. I took it aswell as Aikido.

3 on one dogpile against armed opponents, or possibly someone you don;t want to harm physically (Rookie cop, out of control child, drunk friend) Aikido is the better choice. Aikido training can improve your Karate and vice versa. It's the person that prevails and survives, not the art.

First off all - Dont´yes and right me Maheshwarananda. There are many ways of reaching harmony, but the training shown on your link is an absolute disillusion. The moment someone would try to destroy your daily life you would be helpless and therefore not able to escape or take control of the situation meaning that harmony is not preserved. Furthermore the name Ki Aikido is a misunderstanding. AI KI DO - you can read yes ? Ki is an integrated part of Aikido as taught by Ueshiba. lol yourself

yes you are right häste, aikido, means the way to harmony, so no wonder many do not regard it primarily to some sort of fighting technique. you have the right to hallucinate that you can defend yourself with many other martial arts, like shaolin, jeet kun do, wing chun etc. but again that is an illusion. It maybe works with your fellow Iwama people, or some danish drunks but doubltly not to others. it s bit stiff. lol

Well it´s apparent that many people is not regarding Aikido as a true Martial Art. I´ts also easy to understand, due to the many "sloppy" aikido videos on the Net. Aikido Techniques derives from Samurai´s Styles and includes Weapons. Many styles today forget this interrelation and therefore miss out on essentials. Applying a technique on a a strong opponent who is not moving is essential - just like cutting with a Katana. These basics are major in the Dento Iwama Ryu Style.
