This is a classic hornpipe played pretty commonly in sessions, and known solidly as "the Flowing Tide" despite the fact that it was transcribed in O'Neill's, Ryan's, etc under different names, associated with the New York 7th regiment. Personally, sounds more tidal than regimental to me - to each his own I guess.

This is the 32nd installment in my weekly hornpipe project; thanks for listening, and apologies for the late upload - I only recently re-located my camera.

  • Lovely playing! It's great to hear someone playing hornpipes, and that very well!

These seem to have come very much out of fashion, at least at the irish music sessions in Germany.

IMHO, hornpipes require much more musical sense and ability than any jig or reel; slower doesn't mean easier.

    Please keep going!

  • @mickthepiper - I'm glad to hear from a fellow fan of the hornpipes. :)

I have never claimed to be fashionable! I picked hornpipes as something I very much enjoy playing, and a worthwhile yet manageable avenue of exploration over the course of the year... so far, so good!

  • One gem of a hornpipe, beautifully played and a wonderful sounding concertina. One of my favs.
