  • Due colossi..............

  • Oh WOW! THAT was a surprise ending!! Bravo and Brava!!

  • Kraus and Sutherland...... NICE!!!!

  • @MrNigribov I see your point. I agree. :)

Well - apparently people harp like crazy either way, don't they? Maybe we should just stop with harping - about transposing, cutting off etc.. ? There are recordings of him with perfectly clean cut offs, made in the 90s.

As to the praise he gets - he probably earned it, considering he never had a marketing machine behind him.

  • @MrNigribov ... so she wouldn't sound like she was in pain on the high notes.

  • @MrNigribov Not really. Sutherland could cut off her high notes perfectly until the very end. Same with Callas (even if they wobbled towards the end) and Pavarotti. I just think it's odd how much praise he gets. Yes, he had a pretty good technique, but his timbre wasn't particularly attractive, and it's kind of egotistical to attempt high notes when they no longer sound pleasant. People harped on Sutherland like crazy for transposing, but she was wise enough to do so at the end of her career...

  • @ChrisStockslager

First, by this stage of his career is is 60 - which does not make it any easier.

Second - it's not a machine. If only perfect singers were allowed to sing, he'd still be the last one standing.

And finally - what the hell is with your smart alec tone?
