  • can you please do a tutorial of how to design a car in CATIA, I'm trying to use the imagine and shape too but it's so bad for doing a car

  • I've never used the imagine and shape except for the wing mirrors. Unfortunately I've got no tutorials. My tip is to work with lines forming the frame, then create the surfaces, always refining from a raw design to a good one

  • Hey nice model, im at uni in the UK and have been learning catia now for 2 yrs and id find that pretty hard to model! you've got some great looking surfaces there. Also, how long did that take to render?!?!?! a year or 2? :P

  • It took "only" 2 or 3 hours :)

I suggest u to use both Generative Shape Design and Automotive Class A modules. Also, it's important to get your bearings in the 3d ambient, acquiring your own technique, using lines and surfaces. and practise a lot!

  • please do a tut on making a car...

  • That workbench has been obsolete since R15. Icem Shape Design has taken its place since that revision.

  • thanks, your work is really good btw. Should I be using freestyle or generative shape design? also do you use referenence images, is the car to 1:1 scale?

  • Yeah im always multisurfacing in gen shape design, i rarely use the basic part design anymore unless im doing simple stuff, i can get a nice set of surfaces but theres always a nice little cusp somehwere that needs blending! Its hard as we're also learning Alias studio tools and 3ds max. can get pretty confusing. Will defo look up the a class surface modules to!

  • its all good, thanks for the replies, appreciated!

  • Once your model is ready go to Infrastructure -> Photo Studio. Then create a turntable, set cameras, lights and shooting (you can choose either take a picture or make an animation)

P.S. sorry, i clicked on remove instead of reply to your message
