This showcases many of the beta differences between the Turok 2 kiosk demo cart and the retail Turok 2 cart (I purposely avoided showing obvious demo alterations such as the save stations not functioning, I wanted to solely focus on the game's beta content that was changed before release).

There's definitely more beta stuff to find but this demonstrates most occurrences of it found while playing.

All footage was recorded by me on N64, no emulation.

Few other differences not mentioned in the vid:
1. Some of the weapon-sway animations were improved (made smoother)
2. In the retail, Turok gasps for air when he reaches the surface of water. In the beta there is no sound.
3. The graphical lighting is much different between the two versions.
4. There is a bright blue flash when you collect a diamond in the beta, in retail this was toned-down.

You can see my review of the Turok 2 kiosk demo cart here (one of my first game reviews, pretty sloppy):

  • The beta plasma rifle acts alot like the Alien Weapon from Turok: Dinosaur Hunter and the beta Hud icon for the Lifeforce Cards (the diamonds) is the same as Turok: Dinosaur Hunter's Lifeforce Cards. The check points are also from Dinosaur Hunter, only with a Turok 2 style in this game rather than the primitive looking wooden ones from Turok 1.

Also, I think I like the beta Firestorm Cannon more. =P

  • Beta:

    TWO LIFES REMAINING

    Then cut to retail:

    ONE LIFE REMAINING

    Did you're lives seemingly transfer?

  • I never even think of such things when I play a demo/retail version of such old games.

I guess this is the reason why most demo games warn that they may have changed slightly in retail. :P

  • Interesting vid.
