Actually they are quite cheap, and food subsidies tend to make food more expensive, though it depends on how the subsidies are executed. More to the point EU members don't suffer from food shortages and are not concerned with a possible denial of access to food. Meanwhile, these subsidies are even more egregious and absurd than their American equivalents.

2. Europe is pretty irrelevant on the world stage. The resources are in Africa, the factories are in Asia, the drugs are in South America, and the money is rolling off printers in the United States.
