Nearly most of the new trolleys in Beijing are equipped with banks of batteries onboard, and are able to travel a considerable length of distance independent of overhead wires. This video clip shows the trolleybuses with their poles lowered passing through Wong Fu Jing St, a semi-padestrainised shopping street where overhead wires have been removed so as to eliminate the visual impact from the wirings.

  • In the last a few seconds, the computer-generated female voice came out from the the outer speaker of the trolleybus, saying:"Vehicles and Pedestrians Please Mind the Traffic Safty"

  • This is where trolleybuses score over trams which cannot go where there's no track. Trolleybuses are much more manoeuvrable and have all the environmental benefits of electric traction.
