@4drcoop My parents had an old 78 rpm recording of "Shino no Yoru" so I heard this song often. It brings back memories from the 1950s and I still like to listen to "Shina no Yoru," Thanks for uploading this nostaltic melody otherwise known as "She Aint Got No Yoyo."

I have the ORIGINAL LP - from WWII !!!!! - it's actually hard to listen to (very nasal) but it's oddly addicting.

I love this song...brings memories when I was a kid back in the early '50's. I learned it listening to to my mom singing it.

A great song, and lots of memories shared on this page. I can understand the politics surrounding the legacy of the song these days--there are historical implications that we must never forget or dismiss. But let's not forget the power of great art to bring people together. Thanks to all the men who served and posted here--from whatever "side" they may have fought and sacrificed for. I enjoyed reading your stories and memories while this great song played!

My mother used to sing this while she was doing household chores. Dad would tease her by asking her to sing, "She Ain't Got no Yo-Yo" because he could never remember the Japanese name of the song.

I can remember nights on guard duty, the North Koreans played this song on their stations...I think to demoralize the GIs. Funny thing....we all listened to North Korean radio because they played great music.

One of the comments called this song the "Theme Song of The Korean War" which it really was for thousands of GI's. I was there for 16 months in 1952 and 1953. I was also able to make frequent trips to Japan. Everyone there in Japan and Korea loved this song and we played it quite oftern. I still have my original Japanese 78's but no longer have a player for them. Thank you for posting this beautiful song. You'll never know how may memories it brought back.
This song (the Shirley Yamaguchi version) is being played at my grandfather's funeral tomorrow. He served in the USAF and was in Japan during the Korean War. He was singing this song up until a week before he died. Unfortunately, he had no idea what this song was called, and believed the lyrics were, "she aint got no yo yo." I was ecstatic when I found the song he had sung all those years since the service. I'm just really sorry I couldn't have found it for him earlier. RIP Papaw.

My unit, stationed at Camp Fuji, Japan was suddenly sent to Korea. Our captain had a record of China No Yoru, which he played often. Some of us would stand there
listening with tears in our eyes. Wonderful to hear it again!
