Under the nation's economic stimulus, the industry will receive $93 million to develop wind power technology. Still, experts say a price on carbon is needed to make wind more attractive to grid operators is. Wind industry advocates say it has already generated 35-thousand new jobs and 55 new manufacturing facilities this past year alone and the federal investment is worthwhile. However, once the new turbines are built, new transmission is needed to ship that wind power to load centers. A smart-grid could get more wind power on line.

  • The Smart Grid has the ability to accommodate wind power which is the most sought after renewable energy source worldwide. The Smart Grid technology helps to save power during peak hours and also measures the amount of energy that one uses. According to a report, nearly 60 million smart meters will be installed by 2015.
