Lyndon Johnson was far from being a good president he was racist, extended the vietnam war, and may have been involved with the assassination of his predecessor. There are no racial 'slurs' in my comment: in Australia these terms (when in context) are used as words of affection, as they are here.

And, I did not say Johnson 'liked' African Americans.

I said he had a vision for the US to be rid of poverty and inequality, which is what The Great Society was all about.

Kennedy sent in the National Guard to protect civil rights, but it was Johnson that pushed through the civil rights legislation.
