How to take care of hermit crabs...

This is the best video I've ever made, so... yeah. lol It's basically the simple step by step info on hermies. I get more into detail with this one.

My videos will get better as I go along. I'm still experimenting. ^^

UPDATE:

I didn't mean to say that the shedding lasted a few days. It can range from 4 to 8 weeks. The process includes the actual shedding of the exoskeleton, the hardening of the exoskeleton and recovery period.

Most likely and hopefully, they stay underground for this whole period. Just let them be, though... even if it is extremely difficult. It's for the best.

Hi, I just bought my first two Hermit Crabs today, is a sponge that has water in it good for a water dish? The Hermit Crab salesman said that it would be OK. Is it?

Wait. Do you mean having them drink from a sponge? That's not good, because they're incapable of doing that. They have gills and have to submerge 1/2 of the way in water or so, so that they can fill their shells with water and hold it.

im sorry im retarded, but i just got my first two crabs yesterday, what does molt mean? im gonna guess,.. does it mean change shells???

It means they shed their skin. They need moist sand, but not soaking, that they can dig under for long periods of time. It has to be at least twice their height. Then they can stay under until they shed their skin, which is a very difficult time for them. They need to be left alone when they molt or destress.

My Hermit Crab just molted above ground. I dont have 4in of sand. I put it in an ISO which has about 4in of sand. What Should I do now? Just wait? Should i water the sand in the ISO? And also the exoskeleton is attached to my crab by a thread. Should i leave it alone?

@daddyslittlegurll i'm so sorry for your consishion like i go to a say... spec school for kids that have problems or spec needs so i know what its like to be like that and yes it means molting their skin and change shells like the video said you should keep them away from each other or they will fight and will get hurt =)

@TheHalomasterdude hey youu buy a spray bottle like for hair and put it on a light setting and heat lamp and and sand are at pet stors i dont recomend sand thou i would use coco skins bedding also at pet stores O_o

@InsaneMonkeyFun It is best to use things made of cork as they have been treated to prevent decay and not to carry any mites.Fungus spores and mites are hazardous to the gills.
