@somville5389 In what way does Groundation suck? The only problem I have with them is not with the band itself, but with the lead singer's affected patois and rasta pretensions. To his credit, though, he possesses a deep understanding and appreciation of the culture. On a purely musical level the band is outstanding. By mixing elements of reggae (an imported expression of culture) and jazz/funk (a genuinely native expression of american culture) they create something original.
Actually, the phrase "every time you get pay, pay gone" is fairly indicative of the experiences of the third world peoples when a capitalist system descends on their traditional culture and ways of living. Colonization and the economic systems they left behind are designed to keep the poor people working as much as possible, in order to uphold the privalege of the wealthy.
If u dont understand the music that is fine but if u dont understand it please dont knock it. These sound has alot of meaning to them and u dont have to be a rasta to know what is been said.
