Fire Ants Vs. 3.5 Inch Beetle

I was hiking in Philmont, New Mexico when i came across the largest anthill I've ever seen, at least 3-4 feet wide. More than that, I found the largest beetle I've ever seen at at the same time, it was about 3.5 inches long. Without thinking, it ran straight through a large section of the colony. It was like watching a National Geographic "Wild Ant" special.

Don't underestimate the fire ants nor any other deadly insects. Seems like the logical thing would be for the beetle to fly off becuase the beetle is cleary outmatced.

those beetles arent 3.5 inces long. they are more like 1 inch long tops. we have that eact species where i live.
