This was for a school project. My partner and I put together this video to show the archetypal similarities between the Lion King and Hamlet. Enjoy!

  • Haha very inaccurate but creative!

Sarabi does not marry Scar, and she doesnt die

Also Simba doesnt kill Nala's father and she doesnt drown herself, thats the scene when Simba pushes her in during the "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" montage...also Simba doesnt die

Sorry to rain on your parade but we cant have people going into english class talking bullshit! haha

Still applaud the creative and making it look like these things occured though...

  • I think that you have misinterpreted the goal of this video. I am very familiar with the plot line of the Lion King movie. Obviously, not everything in Hamlet could have happened in the Lion King because 1) It's a children's movie and 2) if it were too similar, Disney could not call it an "original movie." That does not lessen the fact that the Lion King is strongly influenced by Hamlet. This is a representation of what it would have been if Disney did not have the constraints that they did.

  • @Llam4Face yeah this movie and hamlet are similar in ways but differ in more ways. i do think timon and pumbaa do resemble rosencrantz and guildenstern in that they try to persuade hamlet to forget about his worries and problems as do R and G. although Rosencrant and guildenstern are more deceitful than timon and pumbaa. but there are themes of identity that both plots share. the ghost visit was another similarity.

  • yes the lion king is based off of hamlet. but you know disney has to change some things around to make it more appropriate for kids.

  • and hamlet is also similar to the egyptian osiris and seth myth

    just compare,

    horus-hamlet-simba

    osiris-king hamlet-mufasa

    isis-gertrude-sarabi

    seth-claudius-scar

    anubis-horatius-rafiki

the story is the same: a king is killet by his jelaous brother, and the prince takes revenge

i wonder,is hamlet a human version of the myth,or just chance?...i do not know that...

  • @Darzy92 You clearly haven't been to an English class. The point of English is to interpret texts and draw comparisons. Not all interpretations are expected to be the same, are they? Not all comparisons are going to be exactly the same because that would defeat the purpose of creating original thought. I can see the similarities between the texts, but I can also see that the author wasn't trying to make out that both texts are the same.

  • LOL @ nala going crazy

  • and then it all went awray......AHHHHHHHHHHH LOL

  • is the tucan-thing Polonius? Or maybe Reynaldo

  • @skooler44 good response :P

  • hahaha i just finished reading hamlet for english class. I love this hahaha how inaccurate it is. its hilarious. taking tiny bits out of a clip of lion king to demonstrate an event in hamlet. i.e. simba reprimanding nala, supposed to represent Hamlet's resentment of Ophelia, also the play catching the conscience of the king, with timon and pumbaa, this is very funny too bad the movie didn't resemble hamlet as much as this.

  • longest "trailer" ever...but i enjoyed it,thanks
